Teen Violence
My problem is that teenagers don't really have supporters as much as they should. Teens pick up more off the streets because they don't really have a positive role model. If there were more programs or more support of others then maybe teen violence can decrease.
If there are more programs teen violence would not be a big problem as it is today. The streets make teenagers feel more welcome and excepted. Teens hurt each other with violence everyday to get "respect" all they want is to fit in and for no one to look at them as weak.
In the Washington Post they stated that Chicago started a summer job program for teenagers in high school within a high-crime community. " Students who were randomly assigned to participate in the program had 43 percent fewer violent crime arrest over 16 months.. " This shows how affective this might be for teens all over the world. It could help build a peaceful/safe community.
There are many reasons why teens act violent as the Middle Earth states teen violence can be due to their personal background such as low parental involvement, emotional problems/temper, history of violence at home, and lack of economics opportunities in community/ low income. Additionally, Teens are impacted by violence due to involvement with gangs/ use of drugs or achol, exposure to media violence, and poor performance in school. As a result this shows that teens with no support in the community or programs to help them, end up having a negative impact.
In the American Academy Of Pediatric article. They indicate " Children exposed to violence are more likely to assume the acts of violence are acceptable behavior. " This quote stood out to me because oh how it makes you look at the problem.
Others may disagree with my statement because they believe once a child is wild they don't know how to act like them self's. They fear teens that act violent. In the Washington Post they stated " Twenty percent of the group had already been victims of crime." Witch means that they say that teens already have a history of violence don't make a difference.
In conclusion I believe that if the youth had more support like programs and actives then the violence rate would decrease. The solution is coming up with programs for teens to feel welcomed in and not be judged. A positive role model would make a difference in a teenagers life especially if they come from a rough childhood. Teens feel better when they feel like they can be their self's doing something good.
